The Camel Trail is the most cycled off road trail in the UK and it’s easy to see why with its spectacular and varied scenery from coastal to estuary to woodland and forest. The trail is almost completely flat making it accessible and fun for all abilities and ages.

An ideal countryside retreat, walking distance to pub, tea garden and Vineyard, and just 10 miles from Padstow on the Camel Trail.

Experience an abundance of nature and wildlife on your doorstep, and stunning views over the River Camel and Camel Valley Vineyard. Enjoy woodland walks in our ancient woodland, explore our wetlands and ponds, and get up close to exceptional wildlife. The woodland is a carpet of bluebells and wild garlic in the spring and don't be surprised to find our small flock of Jacob sheep grazing just outside your garden gate. This is “The Butterwell Special” 🪰 which has been designed with guests and is a very successful pattern. It’s a variation in the Silver Stoats Tail and has a secret weapon tied on flexible nylon or wire to discourage airborne sea trout from throwing the hook! Larger versions with some flash and lumi for darker nights and tinged water will often account for the large early run fish. We have a good stock of these flies for anglers to purchase.

There are always a few spring salmon around in May so why not make a visit to fly fish by day before the sea trout start to run. Last year an early run of large sea trout ran in May, before anyone fished at Butterwell! So an early call to Sam and a few nights in late May early June will definitely be worth a shot with the fly.
