Surfing at Polzeath beach, just 25 minutes from Butterwell Farm
As the temperature starts to drop in Cornwall and leaves turn to mulch under foot we’re reminiscing about the incredibly mild autumn we’ve had and the extended time we’ve had to enjoy sunny and dry walks on the beach.
Only a few weeks ago we had a wonderful family day out to Polzeath beach where Sam’s Dad enjoyed his first surf lesson! Polzeath is only about 25 minutes from Butterwell Farm and is one of our closest and nicest surf beaches with plenty of surf schools, shops and restaurants. You can even park right on the beach (charges apply year round).

There is a seasonal dog ban in place on the beach between Easter Sunday and the end of autumn half term, but as we visited on the first day after the school holidays had finished the sausages were in luck!
Cornwall and its beaches are wonderful at any time of year, as long as you’ve got the right clothing. A pair of wellies are an essential piece of kit for us at Butterwell and when we’re out and about.

Even though the temperatures have dropped the sea is at its warmest and surfing in Cornwall can be enjoyed all through the winter season. And what could be better after a day in the waves than coming back to a cosy log burner featured in all of our cottages at Butterwell Farm.
